Today we farewelled chief executive Ross McLeod who’s off to Australia. We’ve done a lot of citizenship ceremonies together and I wish him all the best. It’s been fun 🙂
About 30 new citizens are welcomed into New Zealand and the Hastings District each month at a Citizenship Ceremony held in the Hastings District Council chambers. Each new citizen swears the oath or affirmation of allegiance and is presented with their Certificate of Citizenship. Each family is then presented with a kowhai tree from the council to commemorate the date.
Today’s citizenship ceremony was officiated by Hastings Mayor Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst, and was followed by a wonderful performance by Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre.
