This was the very last Citizenship Ceremony for Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule before he resigns to contest the Tukituki electorate for the National Party in this year’s general election.

About 30 new citizens were welcomed into New Zealand and the Hastings District at a Citizenship Ceremony held in the Hastings District Council chambers. Each new citizen swore the oath or affirmation of allegiance and was presented with their Certificate of Citizenship. Each family was then presented with a kowhai tree from the council to commemorate the date.

Chief executive Ross McLeod officiated at this month’s ceremony, with a performance by Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre.
